CALMMOON RAIL

Benefits of Calmmoon Rail

Calmmoon Rail has been in use in Japan since 2005 and in Europe since 2009 on track systems on ballasted track as well as on railway bridges.

To date, the following benefits have been evident:

Reduction in noise radiation

  • Noise reduction in A-rated drive-by level of up to 4dB(A) depending on the wheel roughness and speed.
  • With freight traffic (80km/h), radiated noise was reduced by up to 11 dB in the mean unweighted drive-by spectrum in a frequency range of 500 - 4.000 Hz.

Fitting & Operation

  • Fitting is done very quickly on ballasted or unballasted track and at bridges of open construction.
  • Calmmoon Rail can be fitted quickly and easily during normal train operations when accompanied by the railway operator's trained safety staff. Hence no track possessions are necessary for fitting Calmmoon Rail.
  • All properly carried out maintenance work such as tamping, rail grinding or the use of a ballast plough does not affect the quality of Calmmoon Rail.
  • The rolling marks of the rails are permanently transferred onto Calmmoon Rail.
  • Where necessary, Calmmoon Rail can be quickly and easily removed by undoing two screws per sleeper crib and rail. After completing the scheduled work steps such as welding, rail elongation, emergency management, installation of track-close signals etc., it is just as quick and easy to refit during scheduled train operations.
  • Should some special requirement occur in the rail compartment area, such as bore holes in the rail web that must always be visible, double sleepers, reduced compartment length, feeders and outgoing cables, Calmmoon Rail can be easily adapted to the given situation using only standard tools. This ensures that the rail web in these areas still receives the maximum degree of noise shielding.
  • Calmmoon Rail has no impact on the decay rate and hence does not affect the vibration behaviour and life expectancy of the rail.
