Ballasted Track

After Calmmoon Rail was fitted to rails on ballasted track in the Austrian city of Deutsch-Wagram, it was found that freight traffic noise of the overall system was reduced by up to 11 dB. This was in a frequency range of 500 to 4,000 Hz of the unweighted drive-by spectrum.

If the customer so wishes, Calmmoon Rail web noise protection system can be installed quickly and easily during normal train operation. This means that the track system remains available to the operator without any restrictions.

Maintenance of ballasted track

Properly carried out maintenance work such as tamping, rail grinding or the use of a ballast plough has no affect on the secure mounting or effective operation of Calmmoon Rail.

There is full compliance with the requirements regarding durability and effectiveness at temperatures ranging from –20°C to +60°C due to weather or up to +80°C due to the action of eddy-current brakes.

If a section of rail needs to be removed and a new section inserted on track fitted with Calmmoon Rail, and furthermore, this stretch of rail must be elongated through artificial heating, Calmmoon Rail can be quickly and easily removed from the entire rail profile which is artificially heated. Two screws are undone per rail and sleeper crib and the Calmmoon Rail elements are removed and placed to the side. They are refitted once the rails have cooled down, and the securing clips are quickly, easily and lastingly secured with new self-locking screw-nuts.

If temporary measures such as fixed barriers of construction work, speed restriction signals or other activities at the foot of the rail need to be carried out, Calmmoon Rail can be quickly and easily removed from the rail compartment concerned, and then permanently refitted using new self-locking screw-nuts once the temporary measure is finished.

The stretches of rails on which Calmmoon Rail is permanently mounted can be lifted at any time in the usual way by roller clamps or lifting clamps. Secure mounting and reliable operation of Calmmoon Rail are always assured.

Adaptation of Calmmoon Rail to specific situations

If Calmmoon Rail needs to be adapted to special conditions at the rail (welded seams, double sleepers, rail foot feeder and outgoing cables etc.), this is done on site using only standard tools.
